The New York Knicks have reached an agreement in principle to a two-year deal with former LA Laker Metta World Peace.
World Peace, a native New Yorker from Queens, was waived by the Los Angeles Lakers by way of their amnesty clause on Thursday, then cleared waivers on Sunday night and thus became a free agent.
He will still be paid the $7.7 million that was owed to him by the Lakers, as well as the $1.6 million he’s expected to be paid by the Knicks. The second year of his deal is expected to be a player option.
While World Peace initially had the Knicks atop his list of preferred destinations, he strongly considered the LA Clippers because they offered the best chance to compete with a contender while not disrupting the lives of his children who live in Los Angeles. In the end, however, it appears he’ll be heading to the Garden after all.
So that means Carmelo Anthony, Amare Stoudmire, and Metta World Peace….with the assistance of J.R. Smith…….woohoo let’s hope NYC can give Miami a run for their money, and Melo can finally get a ring!
But what’s up with the Lakers??? Kobe’s on leave, Metta World Peace and Dwight Howard left….hmmmm Los Angeles better start praying now.
