What is Losing Weight All About?

Vacations to an island, an upcoming birthday, or attending someone’s wedding tend to be drivers for people to want to lose weight. Let’s face it; we all want to look our best specially when we are around other people. However, in my experience, if you want to lose weight because of other people your success will not be sustainable. Losing weight calls for you to do one thing and one thing only: CHANGE YOUR LIFESTYLE.

I will be the first to admit that it is very difficult to change your lifestyle, especially when no one is supporting you. This is the main reason why You have to make a conscious decision to leave old habits behind and learn how to sustain your healthy lifestyle for yourself.

Some things to keep in mind:

You have to commit: Changing your lifestyle can be hard, you have to eat differently, you have to workout, you have to stop doing certain things, you have to make it a priority and it all can be extremely challenging. However if you commit to changing because YOU acknowledge that being healthy is important to YOU, because YOU want to live longer and try to avoid health problems I promise YOU will be just fine.

commitment2. You are not alone: Often people think they are alone in their fitness journey. There are a lot of resources out there to help you embrace the healthy you.  Google has tons of free stuff available. There are many people like myself eager to help others and share our story to inspire you to write your own testimony so please ask for help. If you are committed you will make strides towards your goals. Please understand that changing your lifestyle takes work. Don’t ask for help unless you are ready to accept the challenge and put in the work.

Gain-Friends-Lose-Weight3. Your friends do not have to diet with you: The main reason why you have to commit to a better you is because sometimes you might be the only person in your circle going through that experience. There have been many times when I’ve been out with my friends and made conscious decisions not to drink, not to order certain things, not to eat off their plate and even tolerate their harmless jokes about eating healthy. This is why is critical that you want to be healthy for YOU because when no one is looking, YOU need to be able to make the right decisions.

Welcome to the Harlem Armory! Located on 1 W 142nd St between Fifth Ave and Malcolm X Blvd, Manhattan, NY 10037 the armory offers a number of fitness services to the community. There is a small workout room with some treadmills and workout equipment. The Armory also offers classes year round for free!!! This year I will be taking their gymnastics class for beginners! Stop by their office and check them out!
