This spinoff of the successful TV One show “R&B Divas” originally started in Atlanta, but now features six performers: Kelly Price, Lil’ Mo, Michel’le, Claudette Ortiz, Dawn Robinson and Chante Moore as the work to revive their careers in Los Angeles!
For the opening episode, Price persuades the others to come to an open-mic night that she feels will revive the power of true R&B and actual, authentic singing.
That art has fallen into the shadows, she suggests, and it’s time to bring real R&B music back.
The show highlights some personal dramas, including Michel’le’s casual and rather disturbing assertion that “you don’t have to be in love to make a baby — it’s called sex.” This coming from a woman who has a baby with both Dr. Dre, and Suge Knight (hence the two men hating each other)
Maybe not the best message for teen girls these days TV One, but all in all a great show.
There were occasional edgy exchanges, but this show doesn’t focus on the bad girl who will stir things up like with the Atlanta show. It’s more about talented performers trying to get their work seen and heard.
That’s drama enough.
The show definitely seems like a great one to watch, so be sure to tune in every Wednesday to TV One. Watch the season premier below:
