A prominent Pittsburgh journalist was fired from her job this week after posting a Facebook status where she condemned Black on Black violence while praising a young Black man she saw working hard at a local restaurant.

Wendy Bell, formerly of WTAE-TV, took to Facebook this week to address a massacre in the city that left four dead and claimed that the suspects were likely “young black men in their early 20s with multiple siblings from multiple fathers.”

Wendy then went on praise a young black boy she met at a local eatery who surprised her by working hard tending to tables at a restaurant.

A Pittsburgh television station cut ties with long-time anchor Wendy Bell on Wednesday over racially charged comments she posted on Facebook about a shooting.

WTAE-TV’s parent company, Hearst Television, said Bell’s comments were “inconsistent with the company’s ethics and journalistic standards,” AP reported.

“WTAE has ended its relationship with anchor Wendy Bell,” Hearst Television told AP. “Wendy’s recent comments on a WTAE Facebook page were inconsistent with the company’s ethics and journalistic standards.”

On March 21, Bell posted on Facebook about a shooting at a cookout that left five people dead, including a pregnant woman and her unborn child. While no arrests have been made in the March 9 massacre, Bell, who is white, said it didn’t take a “criminal profiler to draw a mental sketch of the killers.”

On Wednesday, Bell told AP, she wasn’t given a “fair-shake” from the station.

“It makes me sick,” she told AP. “What matters is what’s going on in America, and it is the death of black people in this country.”

This lady definitely is filled with white privilege. The nerve of her to praise a boy for busting down tables, as if its 1955 again?!

But at the end of the day, despite her unconsciously racist Facebook post, the white privileged journalist does make a valid point on Black on Black crime.

Many Black people get upset when they hear someone from outside of the Black community speak the truth about Black on Black violence. But the truth is the truth, and we need to stop giving clueless white people like Wendy Bell a reason to be surprised when she sees a Black man working hard instead of hitting the block.
