NYU Student Recites Powerful Poem “Black Privilege” [Video]

“Black privilege is a myth, is a joke, is a punchline, is a time a teacher asks a little boy what he wanted to be when he grew up and he said alive.”

Listen as poet Crystal Valentine recites her powerful poem “Black Privilege” at the finals of the 2015 College Unions Poetry Slam Invitational in April.

Valentine is a talented performer, social activist and student at New York University and uses her raw emotion and personal experience on what she feels being black in America means today.

Valentine is one of six performing poets who represented NYU at the poetry slam, with NYU winning the competition thanks to this poem below.
