A new 14 minute short film has released that shows the hit 90s hero ninjas the Power Rangers, in a whole new light.

The short film was directed by Joseph Khan, and showcases the Power Rangers in modern times as adults. The new adult Power Rangers have become shells of the teenage, monster-fighting optimists they once were. The new Rangers have been hit with the reality of being an adult in modern times, and are seen in pretty dark places.

Set in a futuristic city with flying cars, giant monsters who terrorize the city,  and a few of the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers enter into a battle with the evil James Van Der Beek of Dawson’s Creek.

Adi Shankar, who produced the short film explained his reasoning for creating the graphic parody:

When I was a child I had two favorite TV shows the X-Men animated series and Power Rangers. I eventually came to the realization that high school kids weaponized to fight an intergalactic threat would turn those kids into some seriously disturbed adults.

Below is a video reminder of the original Power Rangers most millenials remember.
