“Lift Ev’ry Voice” is a book dedicated to telling the too often forgotten stories of inspirational leaders from the African American community throughout history.

“I wrote the book because I believe it will help educators in the school systems to better educate children about Black history….There are so many individuals who have made a difference in this world and it is my hope to have their stories touch thousands of lives” says Author Lilian M. Whitlow.

Whitlow wrote “Lift Ev’ry Voice” as an innovative anthology that consists of short biographies of several African Americans in history who have provided America with their extraordinary gifts and talents— such as music, sports, art, literature, theatre, politics, and other endeavors– that have helped influence the growth of our generation and generations to follow.

“Lift Ev’ry Voice” does not attempt to present all African Americans who have made important contributions to our society, for that would be endless. But the book is only a small collection of those who have. Learn unheard facts about prominent figures such as Maya Angelou, Pearl Bailey, Josephine Baker, Cab Calloway, Nat king Cole, George Washington Carver, Ella Fitzgerald, James Weldon Johnson, Phillis Wheatley, and so many others.
