Now we all know that New York is titled the “City that Never Sleeps”! However, when it comes time to eventually shut those booze induced sleepy eyes, why venture far from the party scene?! Get yourself a room for the night (… or morning depending on what time you’re ready to call it quits!), at one of these cool & “different” hotels located in the Big Apple!
1) Night Hotel – For those who like their hotels dark, glamorous and with an edge
If you’re looking for something a little different from your regular “call it a night” hotel rooms; perhaps you’d prefer your overnight stay to be a bit more dramatic and glamorous…. then try Night – a Gothic themed boutique hotel located in Times Square. The stylish noir-inspired monochrome decor sets this hotel apart from the rest and is a great choice for those wishing to visit the fashionable theater district. With only 72 sleek, chic and intimate rooms, each comes with a plasma TV, iPod stereo system as well as other luxury amenities.
§ Prices range from $120 a night.
2) Marrakech Hotel – Brings a taste of North Africa to Upper West Side Village
This hotel comes quite reasonably priced for a themed hotel! Located in an excellent central location. The newly renovated Marrakech Hotel can be found in the trendy upper west side neighborhood. Bringing a touch of Sexy Morocco to Big City Manhattan is the perfect way to end the night! The colorful decor includes authentic Moroccan lamps, ceramic tiles and rich fabrics and the location is perfect for access to great jazz bars, restaurants and shops.
§ Prices range from $96 a night.
3) MAve – Kitsch Retro Chic
You can’t help but love the recently opened retro 1970’s inspired MAve Hotel! It will probably remind you more than a little of the film ‘Boogie Nights’. The emphasis here is placed on fun, color, perspex, funky art, leather sofas and oh yes…. zebra prints! Taking a dip in the colorfully illuminated pool is an experience in itself – here you can order drinks in a swim-up bar and be on full view by everyone in reception (courtesy of a large glass window). Whether you want to stay in a private room or in a dorm with bunk beds you will be ensured of maximum comfort, ipod docks and cool interiors are available and all for a price that won’t break the bank!
§ Prices from $110 a night.
4) The Gershwin Hotel: Arty Shabby Chic
Are you a fan of pop art? No??…. Well you don’t really have to be in order to enjoy your stay at the trendy Gershwin Hotel, but it might help! Each floor is decorated with prints from a different artist and two original Liechtensteins and a signed Warhol soup can adorn the colorful lobby. Dormitories where beds go for a mere $32 a night are located on the lower floor and on some evenings you can head down to the Gershwin’s “Living Room” to catch random music, comedy and theater performances.
§ Prices from $32 a night.
And for a very unusual experience try…
5) The Jane: Bellhops and stuffed monkeys
If you decide to stay at the Jane Hotel, it truly is an experience in itself! It has a time-warpish, quirky feel with rooms inspired by vintage train cabins. In 1912 the hotel sheltered survivors of the Titanic, in the 1920s it became a haven for sailors and then it was lovingly restored on it’s centennial in 2008.
The rooms/cabins are very compact and although there is an emphasis on conserving energy, in every room there is a flat-screen TV and iPod dock/clock. So no worries of feeling left out of the loop of modern day society & keeping up with the Media Frenze!!! The decor is also pretty unusual with authentic old-school bellhops, maids in black and white uniforms and stuffed monkeys with fez hats! All of this probably makes it one of the most intriguing budget hotels in New York.
§ Prices from $90 a night.
