Janet Jackson confirmed her next album, her first since 2008’s Discipline, will be released this fall via BMG. The as-yet-untitled album will also be Jackson’s first release under her own newly formed Rhythm Nation record label, which Jackson indicated will be open to partnering with “both new and established recording artists” in a press release on her official site Wednesday (June 3) morning. No details on a first single were provided.

Jackson is perhaps the highest profile artist yet to pursue a “label-services” deal with an independent distributor, in which artists retain ownership, costs and revenues of new recordings. Other artists who’ve recently teamed with BMG include Estelle, Deborah Cox and Leela James, while Prince, David Gray, Nick Cave and the Pet Shop Boys have partnered with Kobalt Label Services in the recent past.

Jackson has sold over 160 million records worldwide, according to BMG’s announcement, and boasts a well-decorated Billboard chart history: on the Hot 100, she’s tallied 10 No. 1 singles (from 1986’s “When I Think Of You” to 2001’s “All For You”) and a total of 27 top 10s, tying her with Mariah Carey and Elton John in fifth place as the artist with the most top 10s in Hot 100 history. On the Billboard 200, she’s scored six number one albums, most recently with 2008’s Discipline.
