We are proud to say that high end street brand Hood By Air (HBA) has landed in Barney’s. If you never heard of HBA you probably live under a rock….where the hell have you been?
Hood By Air was founded in 2006 by the well known designer Shanye Oliver, who started making t-shirts and sweatshirts that were sold in boutiques such as Opening Ceremony. This was his introduction into the fashion world. As of 2013 went by, the fan base of the brand has grown incredibly. Celebrities such as Kanye West, Fashion Killa, ASAP Rocky, Rihanna, Ciara, Drake, and Kendrick Lamar are big supporters of the brand.
What makes HBA different from other street brands is the gender-less effect the brand gives. HBA is considered menswear (in case you didn’t know) and they do not have a specific women’s line. The brand is very gender neutral and caters to both sexes, though. It’s awesome to see street brands cross over to higher markets such as Barneys, who would of thought a street brand would be mixed in a market that is filled with high end luxury brands such as Prada, Gucci, and Fendi.
Currently Barney’s carries four items that are available from the Hood By Air collection. The brand currently sits on the co-op floor with Acne, Public School, Rag & Bone, and other labels that are street wear but are not classified as such.
The world of fashion is evolving, the fact that street brands are even in the same conversation as luxury brands show the evolution of fashion.
You see it everyday on Tumblr and Instagram everyday, people mix luxury brands with street wear breaking all the rules and creating a new sense of style. A few years back you wouldn’t dare wear a pair of Balenciaga shoes with a Stussy t-shirt. Now you see that almost everyday. However, we congratulate Shayne Oliver on his crossover into Barney’s.
Till, next time stay stylish my friends.
