New comedy video on Funny or Die delivers the Hollywood diversity issue to television pilot season with the new comedy spoof, ‘SHOWCASE: One TV Network’s Search for White Diversity’.
With more and more backlash about a lack of diverse casting in TV and film, one rogue network tries to reinvent the diversity wheel by holding a unique showcase to find new talent. Unfortunately, it may not exactly solve the problem. Who knew there were so many shades of white? Perhaps Rachel Dolezal or Matt Damon might.
SHOWCASE was written by Michael Cotter (Inherent Vice, Baby Daddy) and Jeff Witzke (HBO’s All The Way, Up In The Air), who star and produce alongside Tammy Dahlstrom (Silicon Valley, Togetherness) and Laura Niemi (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Weeds) under their Show Friends banner. Directed by Patrick Cavanaugh (Mad Men) the project also stars Sonal Shah (Transparent, Scrubs) and features Chris Dougherty (Jane the Virgin, Masters of Sex) and Marcus Folmar (100 Things to Do Before High School).
Show Friends was born out of the struggle of working actors as a way to make their own content while also poking fun at their own industry. The collaboration of Cotter, Witzke, Dahlstrom and Niemi brings together a wealth of experience in both film and television on-screen and off.
