From King of Diamonds to Hollywood Entrepreneur – Blac Chyna Ashy to Classy Success Story

Former exotic dancer turned model/entrepreneur Blac Chyna is the new “it” girl within Hollywood gossip and tabloid headlines.

Within the past 5 years, Chyna has gone from King of Diamonds’ top performer, to Hollywood’s new bad girl. Despite living in media headlines over her booty shaking adventures with BFF Amber Rose, her recent public intoxication arrest, her highly-profiled relationship with Rob Kardashian, or her longtime feud with her ex Tyga and his current girlfriend Kylie Jenner, many are unaware of how Chyna’s entrepreneurial genius took her from the Miami strip clubs to the Hollywood Hills. When looking further into her rise to fame, its no denying that Blac Chyna is a true Ashy to Classy success story.

Angela Renee White (Blac Chyna) was born on May 11th, 1989 in Washington D.C.   After being raised in the violent crime-filled streets of D.C., Chyna learned the importance of making money, and fulfilled her desires of taking her talents elsewhere. Around the time Chyna turned 20 year old, she began dancing at Miami’s popular strip club King of Diamonds where she went by the name Cream. By 2010 at the age of 21, Chyna began urban modeling in a variety of magazines to gain more exposure. It was around this time when Chyna met a client at the strip club who called himself Black China because he was a Black man with “Chinese-looking” eyes, and Chyna got the idea to change her name.

Shortly after the name change, Chyna landed her first major modeling gig when she appeared on the cover of Timepiece magazine in September 2010. During the same month Chyna also landed the cover of Straight Stuntin Magazine and Black Men’s Magazine. Between covering popular men’s magazines, and being one of the top dancers at KOD, it was only a matter of time before she caught the attention of one of KOD’s biggest supporters, rapper Drake.

In Summer of 2010 rapper Drake name dropped Chyna on his hit song “Miss Me” saying, “Call King of Diamonds and tell Chyna it’d be worth the flight”. This one line prompted so much more buzz for Chyna’s brand, and she shortly became one of the most sought after dancers at KOD.

By Fall of 2010 Chyna was recruited to play the role of rapper Nicki Minaj‘s stunt double in the music video for Kanye West‘s “Monster” featuring Jay-Z, Rick Ross, and Nicki Minaj. It was after her appearance in the “Monster” video when more people began to take notice of Blac Chyna, and her striking resemblance to Nicki Minaj.

Following the success of the “Monster” music video, in August of 2011, Chyna’s hard work finally began to pay off when the young model won Model of the Year at the Urban Model Awards. By November of 2011, Chyna was cast as the main female lead for rapper Tyga’s music video for his biggest single to date, “Rack City”.

In February of 2012, Chyna posed for the July edition cover of Black Men’s magazine and landed her first major magazine spread when she posed in XXL Magazine as Eye Candy of the Month. Chyna continued dominating in the world of urban modeling in 2012 after landing the cover of Urban Ink Magazine, and the cover of Smooth Girl Magazine.

It was on October 22, 2012, when Nicki Minaj released the visual for her song, “Come On A Cone” in which Blac Chyna was featured alongside the rap superstar. Nicki grew to love Blac Chyna and even name dropped her again in her verse for 2 Chainz’s “I Love Dem Strippers” when she’s heard saying, “Tell Tyga lookin for his bitch called Blac Chyna”.

Chyna met rapper Tyga on October 5, 2011, at The F.A.M.E Tour After Party with Chris Brown while working at King of Diamonds in Miami and 007 in Detroit. According to Chyna’s tweets, their relationship officially began on November 9, 2011, while shooting the music video for the “Rack City” music video. The young lovebirds were frequently seen together in public at venues like clubs and basketball games and in March 2012, the couple posed for the cover of Urban Ink Magazine together. Later that year on October 16, 2012, their son, King Cairo Stevenson was born and that very same day, Tyga purchased a $6.5 million mansion in Calabasas for his new family.

Only two months later in December 2012 did Chyna confirm that she and Tyga were engaged and planning to wed. But the couple later split in 2014 with Tyga getting into a controversial relationship with then 17-year-old Kylie Jenner. Chyna and Kylie have had an ongoing feud since her and Tyga’s breakup, and Tyga has often gotten involved to defend his teenage girlfriend against Chyna’s frequent shade.

Following her breakup with Tyga, Blac Chyna gained a new friendship with fellow socialite Amber Rose. With both Chyna and Amber being former exotic dancers, mothers, and newly single after Amber and Wiz Khalifa ended their one year marriage, it was only right that these two vixens became BFFs. Their popularity soared to new heights together as they often take time to break the internet with their infamous bootylicious twerk videos. Chyna and Amber can be seen traveling the world together, hosting parties, and making a ton of money.

After dominating in urban modeling, Chyna became inspired to go back to school and get a degree that would support her dreams of becoming an entrepreneur. In February 2013, Chyna enrolled in JLS Professional Make Up Artist School, and graduated in May. By December, Blac Chyna launched her online Boutique “88fin” along with her own brand of adhesive eyelashes called “LASHED by Blac Chyna”.

Two months after launching her successful online boutique, Chyna purchased a beauty bar in Encino, Los Angeles, offering makeup courses and services courtesy of her “LASHED” brand.

On September 29, 2014, Chyna officially opened her Lashed Bar in California which offers eyelashes, eyelash extensions, lash strips, make up, facials, threading, eyebrow tinting, body waxes, eyelash tinting, spray tans, body wraps, and facial threading. It took Chyna only a few years to transition from an exotic dancer, to urban model/video vixen, to successful entrepreneur.

Chyna made tabloid headlines in October 2015 when she reportedly got rapper Future’s name tattooed on her hand. Chyna posted a photo of the tattoo on Ciara’s birthday (Future’s ex fiance and son’s mother). Future quickly denied being in a relationship with Chyna, and Chyna has since recorded her tattoo removal sessions on social media.

By January of 2016, Chyna is in a serious relationship with Rob Kardashian, the brother to many of her Kardashian/Jenner enemies. Chyna has reportedly helped Rob overcome his battle with obesity and depression, and has helped him live a healthier and happier lifestyle. The two seem extremely happy together despite the family drama Rob is enduring over his relationship with Chyna.

On January 29, 2016, Chyna was arrested at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, in Texas, and charged with public intoxication and possession of a controlled substance. Rob drove hours from Los Angeles to Texas to pick up his girlfriend and bring her back home. This incident was a testament to Rob’s love and devotion for Chyna.

Blac Chyna seems to be in a happy place in life and continues to gain popularity and notoriety in Hollywood as the time passes. Despite living in tabloid headlines, Chyna has worked her way up from the streets of DC, Detroit, and Miami to the beautiful hills of Hollywood. Chyna has taken herself from the stripper pole to the board room after leaving behind a life of exotic dancing and urban modeling, to educate herself and pursue the challenges that come along with being an entrepreneur. Between modeling, running her beauty salon, clothing line, starting her own cooking channel, and raising her son, Chyna is a force to be reckoned with.

You can call Chyna many things, but you can’t call her lazy, uneducated, or broke. Chyna is the perfect example of why you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover as one of KOD’s top dancers went from Ashy to Classy.
