Cory and Topanga are back to navigating the trials of teen life – only this time it’s for their seventh grade daughter.
Actors Ben Savage, 33, and Danielle Fishel, 32, are reprising their roles on the hit ‘90s sitcom “Boy Meets World” with a new Disney Channel series that catches up to them as married parents in New York City.
Just as the original series focused on Cory and his adolescent challenges, the spin-off “Girl Meets World” will revolve around Cory and Topanga’s 12-year-old daughter Riley Matthews, played by Rowan Blanchard, and her best friend Maya Fox, played by Sabrina Carpenter.
Blanchard, 12, previously starred in 2011’s “Spy Kids: All the Time in the World.”
The first “Girl Meets World” cast photo shows Savage and Fishel all grown up in business attire standing behind a couch filled with the new show’s younger generation.
The shot includes actor Peyton Meyer, who plays a possible love interest for Riley, as well as August Maturo, cast as younger brother Auggie Matthews, and Corey Fogelmanis, who will play the genius nerd in the vein of the original series’ Stuart Minkus character.
“‘Girl Meets World’ is a new show for a new generation that will be rooted in the same kind of honest, comedic storytelling about coming of age and the importance of family and friendship that made ‘Boy Meets World’ so popular,” creator Michael Jacobs said in a statement last year.
Fishel took to Twitter in January to express her excitement.
“Got the great news tonight that #GirlMeetsWorld was picked up for 8 more episodes – a total of 21! Can’t wait for everyone to see them all,” Fishel tweeted.
