Vice presidential nominees Indiana Gov. Mike Pence (R) and Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) faced off in their first and only debate of the election cycle on Tuesday night.
Both candidates attempted to highlight the strengths of their running mates while pinpointing the weaknesses in their opponent.
Pence seemed focused on trying to get Americans to forget all the offensive things Donald Trump has said over the past 15 months, while Kaine spoke candidly about racism, relationships between law enforcement and communities, and Trump’s lack of transparency on his taxes.
At one point Pence called Kaine out for using the recent “tragedies” in law enforcement to try and title police officers with “implicit bias”, as Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton mentioned during the first Presidential debate.
