Black Gold” is a nickname for oil. Oil is synonymous with wealth. The colors and symbols of black and gold are wrought all through the Shawn Carter x Barneys collaboration entitled : A New York Holiday. Wealth is the name of the game.

If Wiz was talking about Black and Yellow, Jay-Z came through and shut that all the way down. It was all about Black and Gold in this collaboration. The best thing about this collaboration is that 100% of the proceeds go to the Shawn Carter Foundation. Barneys is also donating 10% of its own proceeds from all stores to the Shawn Carter Foundation. So we can’t be mad at Jay for continuing this collaboration with them.

Fashion juggernauts like Balmain, Rick Owens, Proenza Schouler and Lanvin all lended their sewing machines and visions to drop a few luxury pieces to this collection. Balmain dropped some V-neck with leather Epaulettes and a huge printed emblem on the back. Priced at $750, this shirt has WEALTH written all over it. Lanvin does what they do best and drop slim cut suit with a shirt and tie for your wardrobing purposes. Rick Owens basically reminds us that we have a WHOLE lot more to accomplish in life if we think we can get our hands on his $58,000 Crocodile skin biker jacket.  Very expensive, but trust me, if sex could look like a piece of clothing, it would be that jacket.

The dope thing about this collection is that it’s not just clothing. Jay-Z charted the likes of Hublot  and Cohiba Comador to make you feel even worse about still living in your mother’s basement and only paying $150 towards the rent. Hey, maybe you can use some of that extra money you don’t pay in rent to go towards the Elder Statesman Cashmere throw, priced at $4,500. Or the cashmere ski masks which have to be the DOPEST pieces in the collection. What’s big money to small change?

Overall this collab is cool for a few reasons. One is the fact that is’s completely charitable. Two is the color scheme and the motifs used throughout. You cant go wrong with Black, Gold or Black Gold. Another dope thing about it are the names enlisted. Even though many things are priced out of this world, I can still get a Stutterheim raincoat for $675 or Acne wax coated jeans for $325. Of course I believe the price tags on many of this collection to be completely outrageous.  We dont need 5 options of Hublots. Just taking up space here Jay!  also would like to have had more of a capsule collection feel. A capsule collection is a collection, usually a collaboration where many of the items can be worn together, mixed and matched and outfitted. These items felt very stand alone-ish

All in all I commend Jay for dropping this collection. Kudos to the designers that lent a helping hand for this endeavor. It’s available to purchase until the end of December so if you have a couple racks laying around you don’t know what to do with, either buy me a Playstation 4 or hop on over to Barneys and put that Rick Owens crocodile skin jacket on layaway. Either way, you can’t go wrong
