So we have all been there, finally committed to eating clean and have no idea what to do when we are out and about and hunger strikes. Although there are a bunch of options around, how do you pick a restaurant that will not jeopardize all the hard work you’ve done? Recently Mother Nature Network (MNM) and Health Magazine published articles highlighting the top organic restaurants in the city. So no need to worry, because today we are bringing you our list of the Top 5 Healthiest Fast Food Restaurants that will not kill your diet.
According to MNM, Chipotle is known for its guacamole and burritos — its large (organic) burritos. The folks at Chipotle believe food should come packed with integrity. That means free range meats that are mostly antibiotic-free and vegetarian-fed. Not all their beans are organic yet, but the percentage is rising quickly.
GustOrganic is a New York City restaurant that servers 100-percent organic food. It was started by Buenos Aires native Alberto Gonzalez, who first had the idea 10 years ago while traveling to NYC and finding a lack of the good, fresh food he ate growing up.
3. Pret a Manger
Pret a Manger was brought to life in London in 1968, and starts its online menu off with “Pret operates a bit like a restaurant.” It gets all its ingredients fresh in the morning and gives anything left over at the end of the day to charity. Its food is free of any chemical preservatives and additives and includes a wide range of sandwiches, soups, hot wraps, sushi, salads, baked goods, cakes and sweets.
4. Panera Bread
Health Magazine named Panera their top choice for healthy fast food restaurant! This bakery-cafe-based eatery wowed our judges with a comprehensive menu of healthy choices for every meal. Panera also won top honors for kid fare, dishing out RD-approved crowd-pleasers like squeezable organic yogurt, PB&J (with all-natural peanut butter), and grilled organic cheese on white whole-grain bread.
5. Au Bon Pain
A pioneer in healthy fast food, Au Bon Pain serves up sandwiches, soups, salads, and hot entrées made with whole grains, veggies, and hormone-free chicken. One impressive feature: Au Bon Pain provides on-site nutritional information via computer kiosks, so before you even order you know each option’s calories, fat, and sodium. “It’s a great way to empower customers.” praises judge Amy Jamieson-Petonic from Health Magazine.
